For a visit focused on Shenzhen’s history, save Shenzhen Museum Jintian Road (History and Folk Culture), 深圳博物馆金田路馆(历史民俗). Its address is Area A of Civic Center, 福田区福中路市民中心A区. Use the full branch name when searching or booking a car.
Choose the branch before leaving
The museum operates several sites. The Jintian Road branch is the history and folk culture venue; the Tongxin Road branch is the ancient-art venue at 6 Tongxin Road (同心路6号). Check which branch hosts the exhibition you want before planning the journey.
For a first Shenzhen visit, I would pair one museum visit with time around Civic Center rather than trying to cover several branches in a day. Decide whether you want a broad introduction or time with a particular exhibition, then leave some room to explore.
Admission and timing
The museum’s current visitor guidance lists free general entry without advance reservation, following a security check. Regular hours are Tuesday–Sunday, 10:00–18:00, with last admission at 17:30. Mondays are normally closed; statutory holidays have different arrangements, including closure on the first day afterwards. Check the latest notice for your date.
Activities and lectures may require separate booking through the museum’s WeChat mini program. General admission does not reserve an activity place.
Getting there
The museum directs visitors to Civic Center station (市民中心站), Exit B, on Lines 2/8 and 4. Follow current station signs and confirm the entrance at ground level. Our metro guide covers tickets and station navigation.
If taking a car, paste the full Chinese branch name and address into the booking. Share a specific meeting point with companions rather than the entire Civic Center complex.
Make the visit fit your day
For an outdoor addition, use the Lianhuashan Park guide to choose an entrance and a manageable walk. Plan the museum around its admission hours and keep the park visit flexible.
My suggestion is to leave a relaxed half-day window including travel and a meal, especially if you enjoy reading exhibition labels. Arriving shortly before last admission leaves little room to explore. Choose a nearby second stop only after deciding how much museum time you want.
For a group with different interests, agree on a meeting time and place before splitting up. Ask the information desk about current language support, lifts and any exhibition-specific photography rules you need to know.
This is also a useful indoor option when revising a city itinerary. See the first-visit guide for planning by area and the Futian guide for local context.
